We've got mice!?!

And we are just thrilled about our newest additions! I'll give you a moment to let the heebie-jeebies and dry heaves pass...

Now, before you start thinking that the occupants of the Sanders household have lost their damn minds, give me a few minutes to explain. Chances are, we have! But not for the reasons you are expecting ;) Jaylinne has a little, stuffed, white mouse she endearingly calls, "Mousie."

Though it's merely a stuffed animal, Jaylinne treats it like it's a real child. Her real child. It often has bad dreams, throws up, cries, and lands itself in time-outs more than we care to discuss. Being the Grandma of said Mousie, while Jaylinne is at school, and tending to the goings-on of every normal four year old, she instructs me to dispense medicine, meals, etc.. on the regular.

Well, today was a pretty big day in the mice world. Jaylinne was playing in her room when she came out and announced something special had happened. As she walked around the corner she was clasping her hands together as if she was carrying the Hope Diamond. We knew this was going to be good. She began to explain to us that Mousie was now a momma. At that particular moment, a few different things ran through my mind:
  • A momma?! Mousie is a she?! (Jaylinne refers to most of her stuffed animal friends as "he," so this development was most definitely a shock!)
  • Please don't let this be the day she wants to delve into the, "Where do babies come from?" conundrum! I just don't feel prepared for this...
  • And last, but certainly not least: OH MY GOD! WHAT DOES SHE HAVE IN HER HANDS THAT CAN BE PASSED OF AS A BABY MOUSE...AND WHERE DID SHE GET IT?!
She walked over to me and opened her little hands, and I let out a sigh of relief. It was just one little green ball of Play doh.  Jaylinne was convinced that little green ball of Play doh was going to hatch into a baby mouse :) I played along and told her how cute it was, and what a good momma that Mousie is going to be! She ran back into her room, and I was under the impression she had become bored, and was on to her next activity. WRONG. Out she came and showed me this:

Turns out Mousie had about a dozen babies! Now, I'm not one to judge: what Mousie does on her own time is HER business...but this is out of control! I am certain it's only a matter of time before Mousie is off galavanting about and having nights out on the town, while great grandma is stuck watching the kids :)

  2. I'm so glad she has such an imagination! It'll make for some funny stories to tell her when she is older :)
